Rediscovering the joy of color
In 2018 Katie decided to try her hand at watercolor painting. Having no formal education in this particular style means that each of her paintings have a natural evolution to them - and she often doesn’t have an exact idea how the colors will look when they dry. In her own words, “ I needed to loosen my control. Try as I might, I can’t make it look ‘perfect.’” She finds this has freed her to enjoy her paintings not only for the beauty inherent in them, but also the process through which they are made.
Katie finds inspiration for her choice of color in the way sunlight illuminates plants and water to the colors shadows create when the light gets blocked.
